WHO WE ARE

  • We are photographers – visual storytellers. We try every day to create art. Sometimes we succeed, sometimes we don’t. We are married. We spend a lot of time apart. This is a challenge. We accompany each other on assignment whenever we can. We carry each other’s camera bags. We study the light – always the light. We help each other stay sane when the rain is falling and the light is bad and pictures are nowhere to be found. Sometimes, when we are lucky and all the hard work has paid off, we get to celebrate the success of making a powerful photograph, together.

We founded On Assignment Workshops as a way to pass on our love of photography, travel, and self-exploration.

These workshops aim to teach the skills needed to take your photography to the next level. Intended for the passionate photographer, our workshops go well beyond f/stops and shutter speeds focusing on story telling, artistic voice, and composition. Whether you are a serious amateur or devoted professional our goal is to help you strengthen your photographic voice and explore the world around you.

About Matt and Amy:
Photographers Amy Toensing and Matt Moyer are both regular contributors to National Geographic Magazine and have both won numerous photography awards. They got their start documenting small towns - Amy in New Hampshire and Matt in upstate New York- where both learned the importance of community, culture, and the beauty of the natural world. While working in those small communities Amy and Matt learned the importance of making a personal connection with their subjects and the subtlety of visual story telling. These are the lessons they call on every day when they are on assignment for the world's top photography publications. These are the lessons they want to teach to you.
